Zebra and roller blinds are our two most popular products, and they're often compared. The difference comes down to how you control the light.
How each one works
A roller blind is a single panel of fabric on a roll. You choose the light level when you choose the fabric — light-filtering, room-darkening or blackout — and it's fixed from then on.
A zebra blind has alternating sheer and solid bands on a single loop. Sliding the bands past each other shifts you from a clear view to full privacy, so you change the light in use rather than committing to one level.
When to choose roller
Choose a roller for a clean, minimal look, for the widest fabric choice, and for rooms where you want one job done well — true blackout in a bedroom, or a light-filtering glare-control fabric in an office.
When to choose zebra
Choose zebra for living rooms and any window where the light changes through the day and you want both a view and privacy on demand. It costs a little more than a basic roller but is far more flexible.
FAQ
Are zebra blinds better than roller blinds?
Neither is 'better' — zebra offers in-use adjustability and view-plus-privacy, while roller offers simplicity and the widest fabric range including true blackout. It depends on the room.
Do zebra blinds cost more than roller?
Usually a little more, because of the dual-band mechanism, but both are custom made and priced by size and fabric.
