How to Choose Blinds: A Simple Guide

With hundreds of fabrics and several blind styles to weigh up, choosing can feel overwhelming. It gets simple once you answer five questions, room by room.

1. How much light do you want to block?

This is the single most important question. Bedrooms and nurseries usually want blackout; living rooms want light-filtering with an option for privacy; offices want glare control without gloom.

Fabrics are graded from sheer (keeps the view, no night privacy) through light-filtering and room-darkening to blackout (opaque). Decide the level first — it narrows the choice right away.

2. Do you need privacy at night?

Sheer and light-filtering fabrics give daytime privacy but little after dark once interior lights are on. If night privacy matters, choose a room-darkening or blackout fabric — or pair a sheer zebra blind for the day with a blackout roller behind it for the night.

3. Is the room humid or high-traffic?

Bathrooms and kitchens need moisture-resistant, wipe-clean fabrics — a roller or zebra shade in a PVC-coated or polyester fabric handles humidity far better than natural materials. Busy family rooms benefit from the same easy-clean fabrics and a cordless or motorized lift.

4. How big or awkward is the window?

Very wide windows and patio doors are handled with a single wide roller or zebra shade, or a run of matched blinds for a seamless look. Tall or hard-to-reach windows are where motorization pays off most — one remote or app controls them all.

5. What look are you after?

Zebra blinds read modern and layered; roller shades are the cleanest and most minimal; a blackout fabric feels cozy and enclosing, while a sheer keeps a room light and airy. Within each, colour and texture do the rest — which is why we bring physical samples to see in your own light.

FAQ

What are the most popular blinds?

In the GTA, zebra and roller blinds are the most-requested for their versatility, with blackout blinds close behind for bedrooms.

Should every room have the same blind?

Not necessarily — many homes mix types (blackout in bedrooms, wipe-clean rollers in kitchens, zebra in living areas) while keeping a consistent colour for a cohesive look.
