Accurate measurements are what separate a blind that fits perfectly from one with light gaps down the sides. Here's how it's done — and why we still measure every window ourselves before making anything.
Inside mount vs outside mount
An inside mount sits within the window recess for a clean, built-in look, but needs enough depth and a square opening. An outside mount fixes to the wall or frame above the window — it hides an uneven recess, reduces light leak, and can make a window look larger.
Measure three times, in three places
Windows are rarely perfectly square. For width, measure at the top, middle and bottom of the opening; for height, measure at the left, centre and right. For an inside mount, use the smallest width and the largest height. For an outside mount, add overlap on each side.
Use a steel tape, measure to the nearest millimetre, and never reuse one window's numbers for its neighbour — even identical-looking windows differ.
Why we measure for you
Because every blind is custom-cut, a measuring error becomes a permanent one. That's why our free consultation includes professional measurement — we take responsibility for the fit, so if a mistake is ours, we make it right.
FAQ
Can I measure my own windows?
You can for a rough quote, but for the final order we measure every window ourselves so the fit is guaranteed — a custom blind can't be re-cut if the measurement is off.
What depth do I need for an inside mount?
It varies by product; some need only a couple of centimetres. We check depth during the consultation and recommend inside or outside mount accordingly.
